Multiplying Polynomials

Equation 1: (5x2)(–2x3)

Any math problem with a parenthesis ( ) means that you need to multiply. Be sure to multiply similar “parts” of the equation with each other. There are the two pairs of similar “parts” to this equation- 1.) the 5 and the -2 and 2.) the x2 and the x3
For example:
Pair one: 5 times -2 = -10
And
Pair 2: x2 times x3 = x5
(NOTE: When you need to multiply exponents, remember to ADD them instead)
CORRECT ANSWER: –10x5

Equation 2: –3x(4x2 – x + 10)
To solve equation 2, we will need to multiply the -3x with the three other parts of the equation (4x2 – x + 10). Be sure to follow the same rules that I listed above (similar parts).
–3x(4x2 – x + 10)

= –3x(4x2) – 3x(–x) – 3x(10)
= –12x3 + 3x2 – 30x
